NCAA president Mark Emmert earned nearly $4 million in 2017

The NCAA’s fight to label college athletics as “amateur” sports is going to take another hit after the recent discovery of president Mark Emmert’s recent earnings.
Yahoo! Sports reported that Emmert received a 60 percent pay increase in compensation between Sept. 1, 2017 and Aug. 31, 2018. That bump netted the NCAA president $3.9 million, an increase from the $2.4 million he earned the previous year.
Emmert’s pay increase came as a one-time, $1.4 million deferred payment that was written into his contract.
The news of Emmert’s pay increase comes shortly after it was announced that the NCAA is forming a working group committee to look into paying college athletes for name, image and likeness. While the organization is still firm on not wanting to pay student-athletes for simply playing a sport, it looks the it is willing to look at another potential avenue.
After learning of Emmert’s pay bump, the working group may want to try and find a resolution.
