NCAA to vote on extended recruiting dead period next week

The NCAA Division I Council will soon make a decision on extending the recruiting dead period through June 30.
Wednesday night, the NCAA released a statement, saying it will take a vote on May 13 regarding the extension of the recruiting dead period through the end of June. The association has installed a dead period during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, which does not allow student-athletes to take official or unofficial visits to campus or coaches to meet with prospective players face-to-face.
Coaches are still permitted to stay in contact with recruits through social media, text messaging and phone calls during this time. It has seriously changed the way most staffs in college football have been forced to recruit.
In the past, June has been a busy month on the recruiting front, but with all the uncertainty that comes with the ongoing pandemic, it’s unlikely that the NCAA will allow recruiting to open fully anytime in June. That will force coaches to get even more creative with their recruiting strategies for the 2021 and 2022 recruiting classes.
