Nebraska won’t know if 1st-year head coach Matt Rhule is the long-term guy until months down the line. Still, his 1st recruiting class in Lincoln is shaping up to be promising.
Rhule and the Huskers were able to flip 3-star defensive lineman Vincent Carroll-Jackson from Syracuse during the Early Signing Period Wednesday afternoon. Carroll-Jackson, a native of Harrisburg (PA), had been committed to the Orange since Dec. 11 after visiting the program earlier this month.

Carroll-Jackson, 6-foot-5, 280-pounder, now becomes the 22nd commitment for the Huskers in the 2023 class. The defensive tackle had a working relationship with former Syracuse defensive coordinator Tony White, who was hired by Rhule earlier this month for the same position in Lincoln.
Carroll-Jackson only played 1 season of high school football, but the tools were there for schools to come calling. At one point, the defender had over a dozen offers on the table, including ones from programs such as Florida, Georiga, Pitt, UConn, and Buffalo, among others.
With the addition of Carroll-Jackson, Rhule has added 7 defensive linemen to the 2023 class, including 4-star Riley Van Poppel and former Texas A&M top recruit Elijah Jeudy.
