Four-star linebacker Nick Henrich was expected to make an instant impact for the Nebraska defense in 2019, but a shoulder injury could be a bit of a setback for the true freshman.
The Journal-Star reported this week that Henrich suffered a shoulder injury which required surgery. That injury will sideline the linebacker for the remainder of spring practice, but head coach Scott Frost is hopeful he’ll be healthy by the start of the season.
“He should be back about the time the season starts, so it depends on his recovery when we’ll be able to get him up and going again,” Frost said.
Henrich was a member of Nebraska’s 2019 recruiting class and was an early enrollee. The four-star linebacker was ranked as one of the top 150 players overall in the cycle, per 247Sports. He was also the top prospect out of Nebraska and the No. 8 player at his position.
Nebraska struggled mightily on the defensive side of the ball last season, an area it was hoping to improve. Henrich was expected to be a key factor immediately, and still could be depending on his recovery time.
On Saturday, the Huskers will host their annual spring game at 1 p.m. CT at Memorial Stadium.
