Nebraska accomplished something that hadn’t been done vs. Northwestern’s defense in over 15 years

Northwestern had one of their worst losses in the Pat Fitzgerald era by losing on the road to Nebraska 56-7. Their defense had their worst performance in several years.

The defense of Northwestern allowed 657 total yards of offense from Nebraska. They had not allowed 600 total yards of offense from an opposing team since 2005 when they allowed 773 total yards from No. 18 Arizona State.

This was the last year of Randy Walker as head coach of Northwestern and one year before Pat Fitzgerald became the head coach.

Nebraska accounted for 398 total yards of offense in the first half against the defense of Northwestern. Nebraska’s offense rushed for 427 yards while scoring seven rushing touchdowns on 53 carries for an average of 8.1 yards per carry.

Nebraska quarterback Adrian Martinez threw for 202 yards and a touchdown on 11-of-17 passing. He also rushed for 50 yards and three touchdowns on eight carries. All of his rushing touchdowns came in the first quarter.

After last night’s loss to Nebraska, the defense of Northwestern ranks 114th in the nation in total yards allowed per game (451.6) and 84th in points allowed per game (27.2).
