Serving as the Nebraska Cornhuskers’ punter from 2013-15, Sam Foltz was tragically killed, along with former Michigan State Spartans punter Mike Sadler, in a single-car accident in Waukesha, Wisconsin on July 23, 2016. The two were traveling together on their way back from a kicking camp.
Established by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Athletic Department shortly after his passing, the Sam Foltz Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to the Cornhusker football player whom best represents Foltz’s characteristics of excellence and leadership – on and off the field.
Announced prior to the program’s home game vs. No. 12 Wisconsin on November 16, redshirt junior tight end Jack Stoll is the 2019 recipient of the honor.
Stoll showed what the scholarship means to him on Twitter:
It’s an absolute honor to receive the Sam Foltz Memorial Scholarship! Sam was an unbelievable player and an even better man who defined what being a Husker football player is all about so I couldn’t be more grateful to receive this scholarship in his name! #GBRemember pic.twitter.com/5ifZUbOjhm

Previous recipients of the scholarship include kicker Drew Brown (2014-17), defensive tackle Peyton Newell (2014-18) and linebacker Chris Weber (2013-17).
A three-star prospect in the 2016 class out of Aurora, Colorado, Stoll redshirted his first year on-campus before catching eight passes for 89 yards and two touchdowns in 2017.
Thriving in his 19 games under Scott Frost, he has totaled 42 receptions for 471 yards and four scores over the last two seasons.
Needing to win each of their final two games to keep their hopes of going to a bowl game alive, Nebraska (4-6) will travel to College Park to battle the Maryland Terrapins (3-7) on Saturday at 3:30PM ET on BTN.
