Battling the No. 5 Ohio State Buckeyes at 12 p.m. ET on Saturday in Columbus, Scott Frost’s Nebraska Cornhuskers have their work cut out for them.
On Tuesday, Sam McKewon of the Omaha World-Herald provided some key positional updates ahead of this year’s season-opener.
First, McKewon shared news regarding the backfield:
Nebraska RBs coach Ryan Held says Ronald Thompkins is NU's No. 2 RB. He'll back up Dedrick Mills. #huskers

A product of Grayson High School in Loganville, Georgia, Thompkins did not see game action in 2019 as he rehabbed a left knee injury.
Mills, who joined Nebraska in 2019 following stints with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and at Garden City (Kansas) Community College, showed he was capable of handling lead back duties, running for 745 yards and 10 touchdowns on 143 carries, earning All-Big Ten Honorable Mention from the coaches and media.
McKewon then offered some insight into the team’s outside linebackers:

Among these six, JoJo Domann, a redshirt senior, was the most productive last fall, tallying 52 tackles (10 for loss), 2.5 sacks and an interception.
Lastly, the writer provided some information on who is in the mix to return kicks:
Held says the KRs will be picked from a group of Rahmir Johnson, Wan'Dale Robinson, Cam Taylor-Britt, Brody Belt and Marcus Fleming.
Held added the kickers are kicking more touchbacks ten rows into the stadium.
