Nebraska gets commitment from No. 1-ranked prep school player, defensive hybrid

Marques Buford isn’t your typical recruit.
He isn’t at a normal high school getting all the attention that most other high-level recruits gets. However, it’s OK to go under the radar. Plenty of 3-star (and much worse) players end up making incredible impacts in college and beyond.
For Buford, that’s all he can hope to do, as the No. 1-ranked prep school player in the Class of 2021. On Saturday, he made his verbal commitment to the B1G, and in particular, Nebraska:

This commitment video is beyond awesome, by the way. And, in natural 2020 fashion, he ended up showing that he was choosing Nebraska at first because of the red face mask.

Buford, according to 247Sports Composite rankings is the No. 1-ranked prep school player in his class and a three-star recruit overall. The 6-foot, 190-pound athlete/defensive back comes from Texas, but that didn’t stop the Huskers from going down south to get him.
According to 247Sports, “They told me I’m just going to be an athlete, get there and do what I’ve been doing my whole life,” Buford explained. “They want to use me as much as they possibly can, predominately on the defensive side of the ball, and also get reps on offense coming up.”
As Buford said above, he’ll get some reps on offense, too. Not a bad guy to commit to your class, it seems.
Nebraska’s 2021 class now consists of 13 commits and ranks No. 36 nationally and No. 9 in the B1G.
Buford holds scholarship offers from Texas A&M, Florida State, USF, Ole Miss, Arizona, Iowa State and others.
