Mike Riley will be staying in Lincoln for at least another year, as Nebraska extended its head coach through the 2020 season, according to reports.

On Tuesday morning, Lee Barfknecht of the Omaha World-Hearld reported that Nebraska president Hank Bounds approved the extension and plans to add another year to Riley’s contract in December.

“I have great confidence in Mike, to extend his contract to four years,” Bounds told the World-Herald. “I expect us to compete and I have every confidence that we’ll extend it again in December.”

The contract extensions was requested by Nebraska Chancellor Ronnie Green earlier in the year but no date was available. Bounds also said that he was “almost certain” Riley’s pay stayed the same.

Riley released a statement about the extension.

“I am honored to be the head football coach at the University of Nebraska, and I am so appreciative of the continued support and confidence in me and what we are doing, shown by Shawn Eichorst and our administration.”

Nebraska is currently 1-1 on the year, beating Arkansas State in the season opener but falling to Oregon 42-35 last weekend. The Huskers host Northern Illinois on Saturday at noon.
