Nebraska may have lost a big piece of its team with Cam Mack announcing his intent to transfer, but head coach Fred Hoiberg received a big addition to his roster this weekend.
On Saturday, former Pitt point guard Trey McGowens announced via Twitter that he will be transferring to Nebraska. It’s a significant commitment for the Huskers, who are hoping to build plenty of depth early in the Hoiberg era.
McGowens, who is listed as the No. 2 sit-out transfer guard by Rivals.com, chose Nebraska over Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn and Ole Miss.

McGowens is a former four-star prospect who proved to be a solid scorer and assistant man for Pitt during his two seasons with the program. As a freshman, he averaged 11.6 points per game. Last season, McGowens posted an averaged of 11.5 points, 3.6 assists and 1.9 steals per game.
In mid-March, McGowens decided to enter his name in the NCAA transfer portal and explore his options. He’ll be joining a rebuilding program at Nebraska, which finished last year with a 7-25 record and a 2-18 mark in B1G play.
Unless he receives an immediate eligibility waiver from the NCAA, McGowens will not be eligible until the 2021-22 season for the Huskers.
