Keelan Smith is following in his father’s footsteps. The son of former Nebraska All-American Neil Smith will be a Husker.
Keelan announced his commitment to Matt Rhule’s program on Friday in a highlight-filled video posted to YouTube.
Out of Liberty North in Missouri, Smith is listed as measuring 6-3 and 205 pounds. On the 247Sports composite rankings, Smith is rated 3-stars, the No. 14 Missouri recruit, No. 38 tight end and No. 858 prospect overall nationally in the 2024 recruiting class.
The Mickey Joseph staff extended a scholarship offer to Smith on Oct. 29. Rhule’s staff, though, continued to recruit the wide receiver/tight end ATH prospect, recently hosting him in Lincoln for a visit.
After a great conversation with Mickey Joseph, I am blessed to receive my first D1 offer from The University of Nebraska! #GBR @HuskerFBNation @coachwilhite @VincentGuinta @SeanDillonNU @CoachBeckton pic.twitter.com/8sFkIqdOSA

Smith also has a scholarship offer from Missouri. His recent visits include Iowa, Arkansas, Mizzou and Kansas State. With Smith on board, Nebraska now has 6 pledges in its 2024 recruiting class.
Neil Smith was named an All-American in 1987, his final season at Nebraska. He was the No. 2 overall pick of the 1988 NFL Draft and had a decorated professional career for over a decade.
