Nebraska lands pledge from New Jersey LB with offers from Alabama, LSU

Nebraska beat out some of the big boys in the SEC for its latest addition to the 2021 recruiting class.

Friday, the Huskers received a verbal pledge from 6-foot-2, 220-pound lineback Mikai Gbayor out of Irvington, New Jersey. He picked the Huskers over offers from several major programs, including Alabama, LSU, Michigan and several others.

Gbayor posted a short video and announced his commitment on Twitter. His commitment moves Nebraska up to 18 verbal pledges in the 2021 recruiting class.

According to 247Sports, Gbayor ranks as the No. 30 inside linebacker in his recruiting cycle, and is the No. 16 prospect out of New Jersey. He is listed just outside the top 700 of overall players in the class, earning a 3-star rating.

Gbayor was a monster on the field at Irvington High School last season. He racked up 92 tackles which included 16 sacks and 18 stops for loss. He also forced 5 fumbles, recovered 3, broke up 3 passes and accounted for a pick-six. Gbayor also played tight end during the 2019 campaign.

Nebraska continues to climb in the recruiting rankings with the 2021 class. The Huskers are now up to No. 22 nationally and sit with the No. 6 class in the B1G.
