Former Nebraska quarterback Mickey Joseph is returning to the program in a prominent assistant role.

Joseph, who was most recently an assistant at LSU, is coming back to Nebraska to become the associate head coach/passing game coordinator/wide receivers coach.

The 53-year-old Joseph was at LSU since 2017, with previous stops at Alcorn State, Grambling State and then Louisiana Tech during his Division I coaching career that began in 2013. Prior to coaching in college, Joseph coached 17 years at the high school and lower college level.

Joseph made 34 appearances at quarterback at Nebraska from 1988-91 under the legendary Tom Osborne. Joseph’s top season came in 1990 when he amassed 624 yards and 11 touchdowns through the air along with 554 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground.

Nebraska finished 3-9 overall and sixth place in the B1G West. The Cornhuskers ended on a six-game losing streak, most recently dropping a 28-21 contest vs. then-No. 16 Iowa. Nebraska’s last victory came vs. Northwestern on Oct. 2.
