The Nebraska Cornhuskers have officially named UNLV transfer Anthony Colandrea their starting quarterback for Week 1 against Ohio.
This was to be expected. Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule said the following of Colandrea on Saturday:
“Anthony would play for us right now,” Rhule said, via WOWT6 News’ Clayton Collier. “All the quarterbacks have done a nice job. Anthony, I think the biggest thing is he’s very competitive, very fiery. He expects to win every play. He does a nice job disciplining himself to also take what’s there and makes nice checks in the run and pass game, can throw the ball deep.”
Colandrea beat sophomores TJ Lateef and Danny Kaelin for the starting role. The pair are still battling for the QB2 role in Lincoln.
Colandrea, as mentioned above, was the expected winner of this QB battle. The UNLV transfer started his career at Virginia but really took off with the Runnin’ Rebels last season, totaling 3,459 passing yards with 23 touchdowns and 9 interceptions. Colandrea is also a threat with his legs, having rushed for 649 yards with 10 rushing touchdowns while leading UNLV to a 10-4 record.
