The addition of Markese Stepp from the transfer portal was a huge get for Nebraska. The former USC running back brings talent, depth and experience to the Huskers backfield.
Unfortunately, an injury has kept Stepp off the field and getting in repetitions during spring ball. Stepp missed the team’s spring game because of the injury, but is expected to be ready for Nebraska’s Week 0 game against Illinois.
This week, offensive line coach Greg Austin provided a brief update on Stepp. He’s out of rehab and is now working in the weight room. Sam McKewon of the Omaha World-Herald reported the news.

Stepp appeared in five of USC’s six games during the 2020 season. He totaled 165 yards and 3 touchdowns on 45 carries for the Trojans. In his three seasons in Los Angeles, the running back accounted for 505 yards and 6 touchdowns while maintaining a 5.1 yards per carry average.
Nebraska’s backfield is in good shape with a good amount of depth and talent. But Stepp is expected to be one of the leaders at the position and could have a breakout year in 2021.
