Nebraska has a very atypical punter in 2025, and that’s a compliment to Archie Wilson and where exactly he comes from.
Wilson is a freshman, so that alone would tell fans that he’s still getting used to life in college football and away from his high school comfort zone. But unlike freshman football players who come from the United States, who are at least in the same country as the college program they play for, Wilson has a whole different coping mechanism to deal with.
That’s because the new Nebraska punter comes from faraway Australia, which makes life in Lincoln, Neb., a little scary in August of 2025. Wilson is from Frankston, which is a suburb of Melbourne. It’s going to be a major adjustment for Wilson, who will turn 19 years old on Wednesday, and the 6-foot-2, 215-pound Aussie spoke about just that on Tuesday.
Not surprisingly, talking about his family being so far away now made him emotional.
“Yeah, I love them a lot. Yeah, I’ve got 2 little brothers and my mom and dad, and that’s the tough part, that they’re not here. That’s the tough part, and I miss them. They know this is what’s best for me. I can still talk to them plenty over the phone. They’re coming here to see the first few games, so I’m looking forward to that,” said a choked up Wilson to reporters.

For Wilson, the adjustment is just beginning, but it’s clear that he loves his family a ton and can’t wait to see them when the season starts in a few weeks.
