Noah Vedral wasn’t afraid of the moment on Saturday. When Adrian Martinez went down with a leg injury in last Saturday’s game against Northwestern, the Nebraska backup quarterback stepped in and helped the Huskers get to a 13-10 win over the Wildcats.

If The Huskers need him again this week, he’ll be ready to go.

Monday, Vedral met with the media to talk about stepping in for the injured Martinez, as well as previewing Saturday’s road trip to Minnesota. Right now, Martinez is questionable for the contest, meaning there’s a good chance Vedral gets the start against the Golden Gophers.

He’ll be ready if he gets the call.

“We’ll be ready when we need to be,” Vedral said. “Nothing changes, the preparation stays the same, the film stays the same. We’re focused on what they do. Today we had a good practice, so that feels good. And I’ll be ready, if that’s my time.”

Vedral stepped in for Martinez in the second half against Northwester, completing 2-of-5 passes for 41 yards and rushing seven times for 33 yards. He also provides that dual-threat spark to the Nebraska offense.

Late down the stretch, Vedral completed a long pass to Wan’Dale Robinson and got the Huskers into field goal range to set up the game-winning kick as time expired.

Obviously, Nebraska would love to have Martinez’s skill set under center in a B1G West road game. However, Vedral is confident in his ability to lead the Husker offense if necessary.
