Nebraska RB coach willing to do whatever it takes to have Maurice Washington ready to go Saturday

Nebraska’s coaching staff is challenging Maurice Washington this week. Between injuries and suspensions this season, the Huskers running back hasn’t been able to contribute fully to the offense has he was expected.
Running back coach Ryan held is now putting it on Washington to show up in a big way this weekend. He’s willing to do whatever it takes to get the Husker back fired up and ready to go this weekend in Minnesota.
“I’m going to be on him to be a champion on Saturday. I’m going to be on him right before the deal,” Held told Steve Sipple of Husker Extra. “I might take a beer bottle and smash it over my head — whatever it takes to get him ready.”
Washington provided some consistency to Nebraska’s rushing attack through the first four games of the season. He rushed for 268 yards and a touchdown on 35 carries. He had an additional 149 receiving yards and two touchdowns, as well.
But in the last two games against Ohio State and Northwestern, Washington has dealt with an injury and a suspension. When he has been on the field, he’s not been very productive. He’s totaled just 10 yards on nine carries and eight yards on three receptions.
Nebraska needs more contributions from him, especially against a 5-0 Minnesota team this weekend.
Held is willing to go to extreme measures to get Washington in the zone on Saturday night. We’ll see how Washington responds to the challenge.
