Nebraska to retire eight jerseys at home opener

The jerseys of eight former Cornhuskers will be retired at Nebraska’s first home game against Arkansas State on Sept. 2.

Nebraska athletic director Shawn Eichorst made the announcement on Wednesday, stating that eight former Huskers who have been inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame will have their jerseys retired and their names will be added to the façade of the North Stadium.

The eight players that will be honored are Guy Chamberlin, Ed Weir, Clarence Swanson, George Sauer, Sam Francis, Forrest Behm, Bobby Reynolds and Wayne Meylan.

Nebraska has retired 17 jerseys in the past.

The Huskers season opener against Arkansas State is scheduled for an 8 p.m. start.
