Nebraska to pay UTEP record amount for 2028 matchup

UTEP really lived up to its nickname when scheduling future games against Nebraska, mining the Huskers for a pair of hefty paydays to make two trips to Lincoln.
Thursday, Nebraska announced the addition of several games to its future schedules, which was highlighted by a home-and-home series against Oklahoma State in 2034 and 2035. Other future opponents include UTEP, Louisiana-Monroe, Ohio and South Dakota State.
But it was UTEP that strikes the biggest payout.
According to the Omaha World-Herald, UTEP will be paid $1.775 million to make the trip to Lincoln to play the Huskers in 2028. That’s the biggest check Nebraska has cut to one opponent for one game. The previous high was set at $1.65 million in 2017, the amount the school paid Arkansas State.
The 2024 matchup between the Huskers and Miners will net UTEP $1.65 million.
Nebraska will also pay Louisiana-Monroe $1.65 million (2025); $1.6 million to Ohio (2026); and $650,000 to South Dakota State (2030).
