Nebraska unveils black uniforms for Halloween game

Halloween comes on Saturday this year, which means college football will be played on everyone’s favorite spooky holiday. Nebraska is going all out.

The Cornhuskers are having a blackout on Oct. 31 in Lincoln. That calls for black uniforms, which the program unveiled on social media Saturday.

The program’s announcement states that the alternate uniform is built around the theme “Our Red Burns Brighter.” The uniform features metallic red accents against a black base.

In a nod to Memorial Stadium’s popular drone shows before the 4th quarter, the bottom of the back panel of the jersey features a custom perforated “Block N.” The black helmet features Huskers script in metallic red with an “A Winning Tradition” emblem on the back.

Nebraska’s winning tradition includes victories in 81% of home night games. The Halloween game marks the first time Nebraska and Washington will play as members of the Big Ten. The Huskers hold a 5-4-1 advantage all time over the Huskies. Nebraska won the last meeting in 2011, 51-38 in Lincoln.

Matt Rhule is entering Year 4 at Nebraska. The Huskers are 12-8 at home under Rhule, going 4-3 last season.
