Nebraska’s Spencer Schwellenbach signs contract with Atlanta Braves

Spencer Schwellenbach is officially starting his professional baseball career.
On Monday, Jim Callis with MLB Pipeline reported that Schwellenbach had signed his contract with the Atlanta Braves. According to Callis, Schwellenbach signed for $1 million, slightly below the slot value of the No. 59 pick.

Now that he is signed, it will be interesting to see if he begins his career as a position player or pitcher only in Atlanta’s system. Schwellenbach had career numbers of .282/.405/.423 (BA/OBP/SLG) while at Nebraska with 12 home runs, 19 doubles, and 82 runs scored.
During the 2021 season, Schwellenbach was a two-way star for the Huskers, finishing fourth on the team in hits (52), third in runs (43), second in walks (30), and led the team with 40 RBI. He also led the pitching staff with 10 saves while posting an 0.57 ERA and 34 strikeouts in 31.2 innings pitched.
