Not only will Charlton Warren receive the title defensive coordinator in his move from Georgia to Indiana, but he’ll also be getting a nice pay increase.
On Tuesday, Indiana officially introduced Warren as the team’s next defensive coordinator, replacing Kane Wommack, who took a head coaching job at South Alabama. Warren, who had been the defensive backs coach at Georgia the last two seasons, will see an increase in pay by $100,000 to take over the Hoosiers defense.
Per Jon Blau of the Herald Times, Warren is set to make $700,000 in his first season as the defensive coordinator at Indiana. In his second season, he will add another $25,000 to his salary, making $725,000.
Charlton Warren's salary numbers at IU (though an official contract has not been signed yet):
Year One: $700K
Year Two: $725K#iufb— Jon Blau (@Jon_Blau) January 26, 2021
Warren had been making $600,000 at Georgia.
The number Tom Allen is allowed to offer Warren is quite a bit higher than what Indiana was paying Wommack to run the defense. Wommack was paid $460,000 as the defensive coordinator at IU, nearly $250,000 less than what Warren will make.
Indiana finished the 2020 season with a 6-2 record.
