New Mexico State outlasts Bowling Green, continues undefeated bowl streak

New Mexico State should not be here. Not according to anyone who saw the first 4 weeks of its season.
The Aggies started the season with 4 awful losses in a row, being outscored 147-45 with setbacks to UTEP, Nevada, Wisconsin and Minnesota. The final 2 are understandable, but that start in that fashion is nothing short of disastrous, regardless of the circumstances.
But this story has a happy ending. The Aggies proceeded to win 6 of their final 8 games and cracked a bid to the Quick Lane Bowl against Bowling Green. They beat the odds and downed the Falcons to finish with a 7-6 record on the season after starting 0-4.
And it just gets better. With the win, the Aggies improved to 4-0-1 all-time in bowl contests. They are the only FBS team in the country that can say they are undefeated in bowl games across their history, minimum 1 game played.

Quarterback Diego Pavia led the way for the Aggies, throwing for 167 yards and 2 touchdowns on the evening.
The stats don’t even begin to tell the whole story, though. He was giving everything for the Aggies Monday evening. Here he is throwing a lead block on a reverse.

Former Minnesota head coach Jerry Kill leads the Aggies. Kill also made stops at Rutgers and TCU before taking the NMSU head coaching job this season.
What a story and what a season from the Aggies.
