NFL analyst ‘wouldn’t be surprised’ if Rashan Gary taken No. 2 overall in NFL Draft

A lot of NFL Draft experts believe that Michigan defensive lineman Rashan Gary is a top 10 pick in this year’s draft, but one analyst thinks the former Wolverine could go as high as No. 2.
Monday, Daniel Jeremiah of NFL Network talked about several prospects on a conference call ahead of this week’s NFL Scouting Combine. When he was asked about Gary, he believed the defensive lineman was one of the top prospects in the draft.
Jeremiah also believes that Gary’s massive upside is something that could be appealing to several NFL teams.
“Rashan Gary, to me, is a little bit more athlete than football player at this point in time,” Jeremiah said, according to Nick Baumgardner of the Detroit Free Press. “He’s a rare, rare combination of size and speed and he’s explosive. But the production doesn’t necessarily match the skill set. But going back and watching the tape on all these guys, I still view him as a top-10 player, and it wouldn’t shock me if he was the second pick in the draft.
“There’s tremendous upside for him. From a skill-set standpoint, I think the ceiling for him is like a Cam Jordan. Could be one of the better defensive ends in the NFL. … I like him better on the edge.”
Gary finished his Michigan career with 44 tackles, 7.5 for loss and 3.5 sacks in 2018. He played in nine games, missing three regular season contests to a shoulder injury and opting to skip the Wolverines’ Peach Bowl game against Florida.
But Gary’s potential has never been measured by stats. Throughout his career, he’s often drew double teams and has been the focal point for offensive lines. He’ll be one of the more explosive and talented athletes in the NFL Draft this year.
In three years at Michigan, Gary totaled 134 tackles, 24.5 tackles for loss and 10.5 sacks.
