NFL.com has Iowa player ranked as No. 5 overall prospect for 2019 draft

It’s late September.
College football is certainly underway, but many teams have already played four games. Week 5 is right around the corner.
With that said, NFL scouts, general managers, owners and others have some 2018 game film to go off of when looking at potential prospects. Over at NFL.com, Bucky Brooks and Daniel Jeremiah look at collegiate prospects as part of their jobs. It’s what they do.
Earlier this week, the two released their second version of “Top 25 prospects in 2018 college football season.” Up at No. 1 is Ohio State’s prolific DL Nick Bosa. Bosa’s a stud. We all know this.
What some may know less on is the talent that Iowa TE Noah Fant has. The Hawkeyes junior TE is certainly on Brooks and Jeremiah’s radars, though. They have him listed as the No. 5 overall prospect.
Here’s what Brooks wrote:
5. Noah Fant, TE, Iowa
“Big, athletic tight end with the size and playmaking ability to create mismatches in space. He fits the prototype that racks up catches in bunches in the NFL.”
That quickly sums up Fant pretty well. Though he only scored 1 TD as a freshman, his sophomore campaign in 2017 got people’s attention. He caught 30 passes for 494 yards and 11 TD.
That’s efficient.
So far in 2018, Fant has caught 15 passes for 169 yards and 4 TD. He’s well on his way to a gaudy statistical season. And, he’s performed well against the better teams such as Wisconsin.
Against the Badgers, Fant had both TD the Hawkeyes scored. He couldn’t have done too much more.
We’ll see how the rest of 2018 goes for the 6-foot-5, 241-pound mismatch, but regardless, he should get looked at in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft when it’s all said and done.
