NFL Draft expert Matt Miller: ‘I think Nick Bosa is maxed out’

There haven’t been a lot of concerns NFL Draft experts have about former Ohio State defensive end Nick Bosa. Since the start of the 2018 college football season, he’s been regarded as one of the top three players in the draft with a chance to go No. 1 overall come Thursday night.

At least one draft analyst is a little skeptical about Bosa’s potential, though. Bleacher Report’s Matt Miller isn’t quite as high on the former Buckeye as everyone else.

Recently, Miller moved Alabama defensive end Quinnen Williams ahead of Bosa in his mock draft. When asked about the change, Miller said he thinks Bosa is “maxed out.”

“This thought started seeping into my mind and I started bouncing it off some people in the NFL. I actually think Nick Bosa is maxed out,” Miller said on The SDS Podcast. “You look at him and he looks like a statue. But then also, there’s this point. His dad was a first round pick, and his brother was a first round pick and now he’s gonna be a first round pick. He’s gotten great coaching at Ohio State. He’s also had great coaching at home. How much better can he get than he is right now? He’s not gonna get stronger, he’s not gonna get that much bigger. He’s not gonna get that much faster.

“He kinda is who he is…I like Nick Bosa a lot. I’m not trying to diminish his talent in any way, but if I had to put my money on (Bosa or Williams) to be a better player 5 years from now, I’m gonna take a chance on Quinnen Williams.”

Because Bosa has been viewed as a top overall pick for so long, moving Williams ahead seems like a significant change in the mock drafts. Both players have been consistently mentioned as top five picks, though, if not considered two of the three best players available.

Still, the thought of Bosa being “maxed out” isn’t an argument that’s been mentioned a lot. And regardless of where Bosa lands on Thursday night, it will be a few years before we can get a fair assessment of whether the defensive end lives up to the hype.

It’ll certainly be interesting to see if any NFL teams take Miller’s thoughts into consideration, or if Bosa is just too appealing to pass up on Thursday night.
