Nick Lorusso has been on fire for Maryland this season. To open Friday’s regional action, Lorusso officially went over another major milestone.
In the bottom of the 1st inning, Lorusso went deep on the first pitch he saw to give Maryland an early 1-0 lead over Northeastern. That solo shot gives Lorusso 100 RBI on the season, becoming the first Division I player with at least 100 RBIs in a season since 2003.

When it was all said and done, Lorusso went 3-for-4 with his HR, a triple and a single with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI. He is the first D-I player with at least 100 RBI since New Mexico State’s Billy Becher in 2003.
Lorusso is also chasing some single-season records for Maryland. His solo HR was his 24th of the season, tying the Terps’ record with Chris Alleyne who produced 24 HRs a season ago. Lorusso’s 8 total bases on Friday also gives him 191 for the year, setting the program record for total bases in a single season.
With the win, Maryland advances to face the winner of No. 1 Wake Forest vs. George Mason in Saturday’s winners’ bracket. Saturday’s game is set for 6 pm ET.
