Nick Saban isn’t too sure how teams from the south will handle potential cold-weather College Football Playoff games this fall.

For the first time ever, first-round CFP games will be hosted on campus sites this fall. In the event that SEC teams have to travel to a “northern” campus for a December Playoff game, Saban said it could be an issue.

Saban made his comments while appearing on the Pat McAfee Show in ‘chilly’ Columbus, Ohio, on Friday.

“I do think football changes when it’s cold,” Saban said. “The ball changes. Throwing the ball changes. Catching the ball changes. Holding on to the ball changes … Getting hit changes. There’s a lot of things that change when it’s really, really cold weather.

“What’s going to happen when one of these teams from the south has to come up here and play in probably worse weather than this?”

The weather could certainly end up being an advantage for any northern teams who have the opportunity to host CFP games this December. Per the latest College Football Playoff rankings, 3 SEC teams are currently projected to play in cold-weather venues in the first round: Alabama-Notre Dame, Georgia-Penn State and Ole Miss-Indiana.

The next College Football Playoff rankings will be revealed on Tuesday night following Week 13 action.
