Nick Singleton is off to a dramatic start for his Penn State career. In his first three games, Singleton is over 300 yards rushing and has averaged better than 10 yards per carry.
247 Sports analyst Josh Pate tackled that start for Singleton on his Late Kick podcast recently. Though Pate stopped short of comparing Singleton to Nittany Lion legend Saquon Barkley, Pate did call Singleton “sort of an alien” and “the next best thing” since Barkley’s run in Happy Valley.
“Nick Singleton’s the next best thing that’s ever walked through that door since Saquon Barkley.”

“Those games historically – under (James) Franklin on the road at Penn State – have been nail-biters,” said Pate. “And they just smoked a team. Anyone know what happened?… Something finally clicked for that team that did not click all of last season, and it was running the ball.
“(Nick) Singleton’s different. Sort of an alien. They talk about Saquon Barkley in rarified language around that program as they should… Nick Singleton’s the next best thing to walk through that door since Saquon Barkley, I’ll put it like that.”
We’ll see what Singleton has in store for the rest of the season, particularly when conference play heats up for the Nittany Lions.
