Nico Ragaini apologizes for comments about officiating in Iowa-Iowa State game

Nico Ragaini was not happy about the way things shook out with officiating in the Iowa vs. Iowa State game in which the Hawkeyes came out on top, 20-13.

The Iowa wide receiver made that very clear in his colorful comments on the officials’ decisions, which he has since apologized for.

“I want to apologize for my public criticism of Saturday’s officiating,” Regain said in a statement. “I am a competitive person and player. My comments reflected my passion for the game, and I apologize for my choice of language.”

The Big Ten Conference announced a public reprimand of Ragaini for his actions, but now considers the matter to be concluded as both sides are moving forward.

Big Ten Conference Agreement 10.01 states in part that “The Big Ten Conference expects all contests involving a member institution to be conducted without compromise to any fundamental element of sportsmanship. Such fundamental elements include integrity of the competition, civility toward all, and respect, particularly toward opponents and officials.”

Iowa is set to play its next game against Western Michigan at 2:30 p.m. CT on its home turf Saturday.
