No B1G? ESPN CFB reporter suggests ACC, SEC both have chance to get two teams in College Football Playoff

With the Notre Dame Fighting Irish’s double-overtime victory over the Clemson Tigers on November 7 in South Bend, there was a shakeup at the top of the Associated Press Poll.

Nick Saban’s Alabama Crimson Tide, who were idle on November 7, moved up a spot to No. 1, while Notre Dame jumped two spots to No. 2, and Clemson fell to No. 4.

The other team in this top quartet is the Big Ten Conference’s Ohio State Buckeyes, standing at 3-0.

Despite Ryan Day’s Buckeyes seemingly being in control of their own destiny, ESPN college football reporter Heather Dinich, appearing on the network’s weekday morning show, ‘Get Up,’ made the case for the B1G missing out and the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and Southeastern Conference (SEC) each landing two programs in the seventh annual College Football Playoff.

Keeping their CFP hopes alive, Dan Mullen’s Florida Gators (4-1) topped the Georgia Bulldogs, 44-28, on November 7, their first win over their rival to the north since 2016.

Looking at the remainder of Florida’s schedule, it stands to reason the Gators will be handily favored in each of their final five games. They are scheduled to host the Arkansas Razorbacks on Saturday, travel to Nashville to battle the Vanderbilt Commodores on November 21, return to Ben Hill Griffin Stadium to welcome in the Kentucky Wildcats on November 28, make another trip to the Volunteer State to clash with Tennessee on December 5, and round out their campaign with a home date against the LSU Tigers on December 12.

Outside of Ohio State, the B1G has three other teams currently in the AP Top-25, the Indiana Hoosiers (3-0) at No. 10, the Wisconsin Badgers (1-0) at No. 13 and the Northwestern Wildcats (3-0) at No. 23.
