No guarantees: Everything under evaluation after another sloppy outing by Michigan State, Mel Tucker says

Michigan State lost its second consecutive game on Saturday and third in four games. Understandably, Spartans first-year head coach Mel Tucker isn’t happy and is ready to reevaluate what Michigan State’s plan is out on the field.

After a wild upset of Michigan in Ann Arbor, the Spartans have laid eggs in consecutive weeks. That included Saturday’s 24-0 shutout loss at home to Indiana.

Though a loss to the No. 10 Hoosiers is nothing to scoff at, the way it’s happening is discouraging. Michigan State was shutout at home for the first time in 35 years on Saturday.

Besides the offensive ineptitude, the Spartans also continued to lose the turnover battle. With all of this in mind, Tucker is going back to the drawing board.

That reevaluation seemed to begin during Saturday’s game. After quarterback Rocky Lombardi threw his second interception of the game in the second quarter, Tucker benched Lombardi for backup Payton Thorne.

Starting the changes with the quarterback is a pretty bold move and sends a message to the Spartan players that no one’s job is safe.

Next week, Michigan State heads on the road to play Maryland. If the game is held, there’s a chance this will be a much different looking Spartan team.
