For the first time in three decades, Northwestern’s women’s basketball team sits atop the B1G.
On Saturday, Northwestern defeated Illinois 75-58 to clinch a share of the league crown. It’s the first time the Wildcats have won a regular season conference crown since the 1989-90 campaign. It’s just the second B1G title in program history.
With the victory, Northwestern also set a program record, winning 26 games. The Wildcats ended the year with a 26-3 record and a 16-2 mark in league play.
Northwestern will win the B1G title outright if Minnesota defeats Maryland on Sunday. If the Terrapins win, there will be a tie atop the B1G standings. Northwestern and Maryland split the regular season series.
Northwestern was led by Abbie Wolf in the win over Illinois, scoring 21 points, grabbing nine rebounds and dishing two assists in the victory. Abi Scheid scored 10 points, had seven boards and seven assists, as well. Lindsey Pulliam added 17 points and Veronica Burton finished with 13.
