Northwestern hoops adds Penn State assistant, former player to staff

Penn State assistant coach and former star basketball player Talor Battle is leaving Happy Valley to join another B1G program.
On Monday, Northwestern officially welcomed Battle to Evanston as a member of Chris Collins’ staff for the upcoming season. Battle’s move to join the Wildcats comes after spending last season as an assistant coach on Penn State’s staff.
“We’re excited to welcome Talor to the program,” said Collins in a statement. “His track record as an elite player in this league makes him an incredible mentor for our players, and an obviously compelling recruiter. He has a great knowledge of the game and an undeniable passion for coaching that will be great additions to the staff.”
Battle is the all-time leading scorer in Penn State’s history, finishing his career with 2,213 points. He was an honorable mention All-American following the 2010-11 season, as well.
“My wife Gretchen, our daughters and I are excited for the opportunity to join the Northwestern basketball program,” Battle said. “With this role brings a new atmosphere, culture and family that I’m already proud to be a part of. I am fired up about the vision and direction Coach Collins has for this program. I look forward to learning from Coach Collins and accomplishing special things here in Evanston.”
The 2021-22 college basketball season will mark Battle’s second year as a coach.
