Northwestern makes program history with number of First-Team All-B1G defensive selections

Northwestern is having a special season, one that is seeing success on the field that is now being recognized by the rest of the Big Ten.
Heading to Indianapolis for the Big Ten Championship Game, Northwestern is 6-1 and No. 15 in the recent AP Top 25 Poll. Individually, they have three defensive players named First Team All-Big Ten. That is a program record for the Wildcats, who will play No. 4 Ohio State in Saturday’s conference championship.
The three players – linebacker Paddy Fisher and defensive backs Brandon Joseph and Greg Newsome II – all had truly outstanding seasons for Northwestern.

In addition to the all-conference nods, Joseph was named the top freshman in the conference and Fisher was the Big Ten’s best linebacker this year in an announcement made on Wednesday afternoon.
Now in their fifteenth season under head coach Pat Fitzgerald, Northwestern is primed to make five bowl game appearances in the past six years. They have won three of their last four bowl games appearances, ending the season ranked in the AP Top 25 Poll three times since 2015.
