Has there ever been a better quarterback to suit up for Northwestern than Clayton Thorson?

Thorson, who has been the Wildcats’ starter since his freshman season in 2015, reached the 10,000-yard milestone through the air on Saturday afternoon against Minnesota, becoming the second quarterback in school history to accomplish the outstanding feat.

Only Brett Basanez has more career passing yards, having thrown for 10,580 between 2002-05. It’s likely that Thorson — who averages over 230 yards per game in 2018 — will break that record sometime during the postseason. He already owns the school record for career passing touchdowns (56) after passing Basanez and Len Williams (t-44) earlier this season.

Northwestern (6-4, 5-1 Big Ten) has a 24-7 lead in the fourth quarter against the Gophers, hoping to add another win to its resume before the regular season finale against Illinois and then the conference championship game against the winner of the East on Dec. 1.
