Northwestern QB granted sixth year of eligibility of NCAA

Northwestern received some good news about its quarterback situation on Wednesday.
Fifth-year senior quarterback T.J. Green announced via Twitter on Wednesday night that he has been granted a sixth-year of eligibility from the NCAA. Green petitioned the NCAA for an additional year of eligibility after suffering a season-ending injury in Northwestern’s season opener against Stanford.

Green was the backup for Northwestern for the Week 1 game, behind Hunter Johnson. After a less-than-impressive outing from Johnson, Green was inserted into the lineup and completed 6-of-10 passes for 62 yards and rushed three times for an additional 10 yards. But he suffered an injury in that game that left him sidelined for the remainder of the year.
With Northwestern’s struggling passing attack, Green likely would’ve been the starter for at least a few games throughout the season.
In 2018, Green rotated into the lineup occasionally early in the year with Clayton Thorson returning from injury. That year, Green took snaps in nine games, completing 20-of-36 pass attempts for 169 yards. He also ran the ball 11 times for 21 yards and a touchdown.
Northwestern finished the 2019 season with a 3-9 record, with the lone B1G victory coming over Illinois.
