Northwestern is set to start Cole Freeman at quarterback for Saturday’s game against Purdue.

This will be Freeman’s first-career start at Northwestern and it will come in the 2nd-to-last game of the season. Northwestern was forced to start Freeman after the top 2 quarterbacks on the depth chart, Brendan Sullivan and Ryan Hilinski, are out with separate injuries.

Hilinski and Sullivan have shared playing time throughout the season. Northwestern would have started 1 of the 2 quarterbacks, but the Wildcats were forced to go with the 3rd-string quarterback. Freeman, who is a sophomore, will have pressure to get Northwestern on the right track.

After a Week 0 win over Nebraska in Ireland, Northwestern has not won another game. Freeman will try to stop the 9-game losing streak in Week 12.

Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. ET.
