There are 2 games left to play in the regular season for Northwestern.

Yet, impressively enough, the Wildcats have already clinched their spot in the Big Ten Championship game and have already won the Big Ten West. The 6-4 overall record may not look imposing on the surface, but going 5-1 in the team’s last 6 shows where Northwestern is at.

With all of this in mind, what matters most going forward? The Big Ten Championship, right?

Well, according to Northwestern coach Pat Fitzgerald, every game matters. Even the team’s game against Minnesota, which is set for a noon kickoff on Saturday.

“It matters to us. Every game matters to us,” Fitzgerald said. “It’s a Big Ten West game. We’ve talked about going with a championship approach now for a number of weeks, mentality-wise, in the way we prepare and the way that we play.

“When you get into divisional play, the only thing that matters is if you win. Champions win football games.”

Fitzgerald talked about the team’s mentality altogether:

“We’ll always be pedal-down mentality here,” he said. “I’ll never take my foot off the gas. We’ll rest and recharge, or whatever you want to call it, in January.”

No need to rest now, Wildcat fans. You still have the Big Ten to win.
