Notre Dame defensive back Houston Griffith is going to be leaving the school via the transfer portal.

It was announced by Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports via his Twitter:

Griffith is the son of Illinois legend Howard Griffith, who played for the school from 1987-1990 as a running back. With Brett Bielema taking over as Illinois head coach, there could be a fit there.

As for Griffith’s stats, he played three years at Notre Dame and this past season was arguably his best one. He had 14 total tackles (13 solo). His other good season came during his freshman season in 2018. That year, he also had 14 total tackles (10 solo) with two passes defended.

Even though Griffith had no interceptions as a member of the Fighting Irish, he was still a good tackler. He’ll also likely want more playing time so he can set career highs for his senior season.

Before committing to Notre Dame, Griffith was considered a 4-star prospect in 247Sports. He was also the 70th ranked player in the country.
