Ohio State AD Gene Smith says ‘hope’ is to have full capacity for football games

Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith isn’t guaranteeing that Ohio Stadium will be at full capacity this football season, but that’s the hope heading into 2021.
Tuesday, the athletic department announced that season football tickets for the 2021 season would go on sale. After the B1G restricted attendance to only family of coaches, players and staff in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic, there’s increasing optimism around the sport that stadiums will return to 100% capacity this fall.
Gene Smith released a brief statement on the sale of Ohio State’s season tickets for the upcoming football season.
“Our hope is that we are at full capacity for our football games,” Smith said.
Ohio State will have several big-time home games for the upcoming season. The Buckeyes will host Oregon in the home opener and will also welcome Tulsa, Akron, Maryland, Penn State, Purdue and Michigan State to The Horseshoe.
Head coach Ryan Day also released a statement on Tuesday, thanking fans for their continued support through a tough year.
“It’s been a long year, been hard for a lot of us,” Day said. “We’re looking forward to getting back to the Shoe. We’re very excited to have a full stadium and a big part of that is getting vaccinated.”
Ohio State is coming off a 7-1 season in 2020, reaching the national championship.
