Ohio State has added some much-needed depth to its quarterback room.
Friday night, California quarterback JP Andrade announced his commitment to Ohio State. He went unsigned through the recruiting process but has decided to be a preferred walk-on with the Buckeyes.
“Can’t thank God enough for this opportunity,” Andrade wrote on Twitter. “Next stop, Columbus, Ohio. Committed.”

The Buckeyes were in desperate need of a quarterback in 2019. With Tate Martell and Matthew Baldwin transferring out after Justin Fields’ arrival, Ohio State was down to just two scholarship quarterbacks — Fields and West Virginia transfer Chris Chugunov.
As a preferred walk-on, Andrade is guaranteed to have a spot on the 2019 roster.
Andrade had one FBS offer from South Alabama and FCS offers from Fordham and Morehead State. He decided to pass on all three to take an opportunity with the Buckeyes.
Per 247Sports, Andrade is ranked as the No. 57 pro-style quarterback of the 2019 recruiting class.
