Ohio State’s basketball team received a major boost over the weekend.

Wright State transfer guard Tanner Holden announced via his social media accounts that he will be transferring to Ohio State to continue his college career. It’s a big boost for the Buckeyes, which saw both EJ Liddell and Malaki Branham declare for the 2022 NBA Draft recently.

Holden was a do-it-all guard at Wright State last season. He averaged 20.1 points, 7.1 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game. He shot 49.7% from the floor, was a 34.1% 3-point shooter and connected on nearly 79% of free throw attempts.

Over his three years with the Raiders, Holden’s scoring averages improved by at least 4 points each year.

Holden’s game helped lead Wright State into the NCAA Tournament, where it defeated Bryant in a First Four game between a pair of No. 16 seeds. The junior guard scored an impressive 37 points and hauled in 11 boards in a 93-82 win.

The Raiders lost to No. 1 seed Arizona in the Round of 64.

Because of some of the departures, there’s a good chance Holden carves out a significant role for himself early at Ohio State. When he arrives, he’ll have two years of eligibility to utilize for the Buckeyes.

Ohio State closed last season with a 20-12 record and a 12-8 mark in B1G play.
