Ohio State CB Shaun Wade not worried about draft status: ‘All I care about is winning’

Had Ohio State cornerback Shaun Wade declared for the 2020 NFL Draft, it’s possible he could’ve been an early-round selection.
Instead, he elected to come back for his senior season in order to compete for a national championship. However while No. 3 Ohio State is on track towards that goal, Wade has unfortunately been trending in the wrong direction.
The typically reliable Wade has allowed 3 touchdowns in Ohio State’s first three games this season as he’s transitioned from the slot to the outside. Penn State wide receiver Jahan Dotson scored twice on Wade and Rutgers tight end Jovani Haskins reached the end zone as well.
Wade isn’t letting his woes affect his mindset though.
“Really, all I care about is just winning,” Wade said via Eleven Warriors. “At the end of the day, you just want to win. If I play bad and we win a natty, I’m gonna be happy ‘cause we won the natty.”
Wade admitted that he’s too often been attempting to make big plays instead of making sound ones.
“These last games, I’ve definitely been trying to go for the interception, but I’ve been watching my film, just watching myself, sometimes I just need to go for the PBU, just break the ball up,” Wade said. “Sometimes I get greedy. But at the end of the day, really, it’s just my body position and how I jump. Sometimes I’m jumping back, so learning how to jump into the guys instead of jumping back for the ball.”
It’s been a disappointing start for Wade but the important thing is that he’s striving to make the necessary adjustments.
If Wade returns to form for the rest of the season, his draft stock will rise back up and Ohio State will be an even stronger national title contender.
