It’s early in fall camp, but Ohio State defensive coordinator Kerry Coombs seems to be impressed with redshirt freshman defensive back Kourt Williams.
Williams was a highly-touted recruit in Ohio State’s 2020 class, but didn’t play last season after suffering an injury during training camp.
Now healthy, Williams has been impressing Coombs and Ohio State’s coaching staff with his work ethic. Coombs was very direct with his praise:
“Kourt Williams is the most diligent worker I’ve ever seen any time, anywhere, any place,” Coombs told reporters on Friday.

It’s worth noting that Coombs’ coaching career stretches back to 1983 when he was an assistant at Greenhills High School in Ohio. His collegiate coaching career started in 2007, and he also had a two-year stint in the NFL with the Tennessee Titans.
Williams was the No. 12 outside linebacker in the country for the class of 2020, per 247Sports Composite rankings. The Buckeyes have since moved him to safety.
It’s currently unclear how much playing time Williams will have this season, but Coombs seems ready to give him an opportunity.
Ohio State opens its 2021 season against Minnesota on Sept. 2.
