A key Ohio State defensive lineman suffered an injury during the Buckeyes’ first preseason practice session on Thursday, but the prognosis is reportedly good.
Eddrick Houston, who saw plenty of action as a true freshman for the Buckeyes in 2024, is in line to start at defensive tackle in 2025. He was forced to leave practice early on Thursday, though, due to a lower-body injury, with a video on X appearing to show when the incident happened.
However, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, the injury “does not look like a long-term” issue and is “not considered serious.”
Houston, a former 4-star signee in the 2024 recruiting class out of the Atlanta area, totaled 7 tackles in 2024, including 2 in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game against Notre Dame.
The Buckeyes are looking to make it back-to-back championships after finishing 14-2 in 2024. After a 5-0 start, they lost to Oregon, then saw a 5-game winning streak snapped by Michigan in the regular season finale.
They went on to make the CFP field as an at-large team, defeating Tennessee, Oregon, Texas, and Notre Dame en route to their first title since 2014 and 9th overall.
Ohio State opens the season against Texas on Aug. 30 in a rematch of their CFP semifinal game in January.
