Ohio State defensive lineman Omari Abor underwent surgery on Tuesday for an undisclosed injury.
Abor, a redshirt freshman this fall, shared a photo of himself in a hospital gown on his Instagram Story, according to The Columbus Dispatch. That photo appears to have been since taken down, but The Dispatch’s Joey Kaufman noted that Abor wrote on his story, “Surgery went good. Preciated all the prayers from y’all.”
A team spokesperson told The Dispatch that Abor will be unavailable “for a while.” It’s unclear what the surgery was for. Abor was reported to have been a full participant when the Buckeyes opened fall camp last week.
Coming out of Duncanville (Texas) High, Abor was a 4-star recruit and a top-100 prospect in the national player rankings. He was viewed as one of the best defensive ends in the class.
His freshman season at Ohio State was derailed by an injury as well. He was able to make an appearance late in the Buckeyes’ Sept. 10 win over Arkansas State, but a knee injury put him on the shelf for the rest of the year.
With the departures of Zach Harrison and Javontae Jean-Baptiste, who combined to play more than 700 snaps last fall, there’s certainly an opportunity for Abor to make his way onto the field once he returns to full health.
Derek Peterson does a bit of everything, not unlike Taysom Hill. He has covered Oklahoma, Nebraska, the Pac-12, and now delivers CFB-wide content.
