Ohio State has its hands full in the Rose Bowl matchup with Utah while missing a number of players. Now, the Buckeyes will be without another defender for the rest of the game.
For Saturday’s game, Ohio State is reportedly dealing with more than 20 absences due to a combination of opt-outs, injuries, and transfer following the regular season. Ohio State will also have to finish the game without defensive lineman Jack Sawyer after he was flagged and ejected for targeting.
The play came as Utah QB Cam Rising was scrambling and then running down the field. Sawyer came in on the tackle down the field, diving for that tackle and hitting Rising in the side of the head.
The play initially went off without a flag, but a replay review was initiated. After review, Sawyer was hit the penalty.
