Ohio State picked up a huge commitment in the class of 2026 on Friday afternoon.

The Buckeyes pulled off the flip of 3-star defensive lineman Jamir Perez, who was previously committed to Florida. It’s a huge recruiting win for an Ohio State program that is working on building another top-5 recruiting class.

“The best in Ohio stay in Ohio,” Perez told Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett after flipping his commitment.

Perez committed to Florida back in May, but Ohio State accelerated its pursuit of the talented D-lineman this summer. Perez took an official visit to Columbus in June that clearly had an impact on his recruitment.

For now, Perez is regarded as a 3-star prospect. He’s the No. 679 overall player and the No. 74 defensive lineman in the country for the class of 2026, per 247Sports Composite rankings. He’s also the No. 29 player from the state of Ohio. However, it’s possible he’ll receive a rankings boost before the end of this cycle.

Ohio State is now up to 21 commits in the class of 2026. The group ranks No. 5 nationally, per 247Sports Composite rankings.
